Joe Lockwood, the mayor of Milton, invited every resident to his home for a holiday party on Saturday night.
That's a potential guest list of about 32,000 people.
"I wanted to have a Christmas and holiday party and told my wife, 'why don't we invite the whole city?'" Lockwood said. "She thought I was crazy and didn't believe me for a while."
But the party did happen, and while only a few hundred people actually sent in RSVPs to the event, Lockwood considered it a success.
"Just opened it up, have it more like a small-town feel," Lockwood said.
The mayor wanted to make sure as little taxpayer money as possible was used for the event, which was partially sponsored by city council members.
"I started out going to restaurants, because I wanted to do this but I didn't want to spend any tax dollars on it," Lockwood said. "I went to some of our local restaurants to see if they'd donate a plate or two and that's when it caught on."
About 13 local vendors contributed to the spread.
