DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Family and neighbors are speaking out about the 5-year-old boy hit and killed by a vehicle in an apartment complex on Tuesday.
Police said 5-year-old Robert Love was walking home after being dropped off by the bus when he was hit, possibly by a FedEx truck.
The complex where it all happened is massive. Neighbors said kids come in and out of there all the time but they've never seen anything like this.
"I was shocked. It shocked me," said David Baird.
Jhi Christian also lives in the complex.
"It doesn't make any sense to me because like I was saying the kids are let off in a secure area every day," said Christian.
And because of that it has most people blaming the driver.
"That's sad. It's neglect on whoever's driving. You're not supposed to drive that fast in a parking lot," said Baird.
But the family is doing its best to avoid playing the blame game. Robert's uncle, who did not want to be identified, said they're more focused on the loss.
"It's a tragedy what happened to him. He was just coming home from school, doing the right thing," said the uncle.
And he said it wasn't the first time he's done the right thing. His uncle said he had been doing it his entire life.
"It just hurts a lot to be taken so young. He wanted to do so much. He wanted to play football," said the uncle.
As for the investigation, DeKalb County police aren't saying much. They're not even saying if it was the FedEx driver that was involved even though several witnesses said it was, and FedEx put out a statement sending condolences to the family.
