FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A Fulton County man is accused of attempting to steal computers by posing as a representative of a fictitious state agency.
On Dec. 7, a Fulton County Grand Jury charged Michael Anthony Dix with criminal attempt to commit theft by taking.
Using the name "Seth Eidt," the attorney general said Dix placed an order to rent five laptop computers valued at approximately $13,000 for the "Department of Public Safety and Corrections."
The agency does not exist.
An agent from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the computer rental company arranged to deliver the computers.
Dix was found in possession of the computer rental order, as well as a cell phone with the number listed on the rental order. He was then arrested.
The charge carries a sentence range of one to five years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
