ALPHARETTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
An estimated 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war, including combat-related stress, major depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Unfortunately, many veterans don't seek treatment for those issues, which often results in substance abuse, domestic violence, homelessness or suicide.
That's why Verizon has offered a $50,000 grant in support of the Wounded Warrior Project's Combat Stress Recovery Program.
The program is designed to improve mental healthcare for returning veterans and their family members through counseling, support retreats and online resources.
Since 2000, the Verizon foundation has invested more than half a billion dollars to improve communities where Verizon employees work and live. The foundation helps people to live healthy, safe and independent lives by addressing disparities in education, healthcare and sustainability.
