Police have identified the victim of a deadly Saturday night shooting in southwest Atlanta.
Jerome S. Rice, 25, was found dead on the side of Beecher Street at Cascade Avenue.
Atlanta police Lt. Paul Guerrucci said Rice had been shot multiple times. Employees inside of the adjacent Family Dollar store said at least one customer reportedly heard gunshots fired.
Neighbors like Ben, who did not want to give his last name for fear of being targeted, said gunshots are a common occurrence.
"You afraid to come out to the street," Ben said. "You don't want to come out to the street because you never know what is going to happen. Every day you hear gunfire over here. It's not a joke."
Neighbor Stacey Fitzgerald agreed.
"Every day I hear gunshots," Fitzgerald said. "During the night, during the day - it really doesn't matter. It's always present."
Fitzgerald said she doesn't believe increasing police presence would help.
"You can't say more police presence because they always here," Fitzgerald said. "So, I just wish people would wake up and stop the violence, period. It gets them nowhere, you just lose people's lives."
