The Salvation Army and Walmart join forces to help needy children

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Thousands of needy children will get a gift this Christmas thanks to a partnership between Walmart and The Salvation Army.

They hosted a "Fill the Truck" toy drive Saturday. Donors were given a list of needed items and dropped off the gifts at several area stores.

"It's about helping the children, the least fortunate and just giving the community an opportunity to help us," said Captain David Lorenzo of The Salvation Army.

The event took place at 17 metro-area Walmart stores.
