Brown and Crawford are currently being held in the Alachua (FL) County Jail.
NEWTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A pair of sex offenders wanted in Newton County were arrested in Florida this weekend.
The Alachua Police Department said they arrested Donald Brown and David Crawford after Crawford called 911 to turn himself in on warrants.
When police arrived on the scene they said Crawford had a gun in his waistband but was taken into custody without incident.
A few moments later Alachua Police received a 911 call of an attempted car jacking. When they arrived on scene officers made contact with a female victim who stated that a male pointed a gun at her, struck her in the face and demanded that she drive. She drove a short distance before the male exited the car.
A search of the area was conducted and police saw a male matching the description given by the female victim. When they approached the male he took off running. After a short foot chase he was arrested. The male was then identified as Donald Brown.
Brown was in possession of a .38 revolver, .45 handgun and a .22 long rifle.
Both men are being held at the Alachua County Jail. Brown is charged with armed burglary, Kidnapping, aggravated battery, resisting arrest and charges from Georgia. Crawford is being held on concealed weapon violation and charges from Georgia.
The pair are wanted for allegedly sexually abusing a 5-year-old Conyers girl. Investigators said the suspects know the child but will not offer further details.
Authorities began their search on Wednesday after being contacted by Conyers police. By then, investigators said the pair had already fled.
