CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A Clayton County deputy was injured and a man was killed during a shootout near Jonesboro High School Thursday morning.

Authorities said it all started with a high speed chase that ended on Thrailkill Road.

Deputies saw the 19-year-old suspect, who police identified as Jalen Ricks, speeding though a school zone in a red Crown Victoria.

During the chase, deputies lost Ricks in a neighborhood. Neighbors saw Ricks leave his car with a high-powered rifle and run into the woods, according to authorities.

When deputies arrived, they said Ricks laid down in wood line and began shooting at officers with the rifle.

A Clayton County Sheriff's deputy was shot but received non-life-threatening injuries.

Three sheriff's department SWAT members returned fire and Ricks was killed.

Jonesboro High and Jackson Elementary schools were on lock down, but after the incident, the lock down was lifted.
