ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Atlanta City Council is cracking down on illegal tire dumping.
They just passed a new three-point plan to deal with the issue.
First, tire stores will now be required to mark every tire so they can be tracked.
Scrap tire businesses will only be allowed to have 500 tires on their property, as opposed to 3,000 allowed by the state.
And Atlanta police officers will have the right to pull over tire haulers at any time to inspect their load.
Anyone who fails to comply by next April could receive a $1,000 fine and six months in jail.
