Atlanta police are on the hunt for thieves who stole thousands of dollars worth of dog food from a mom and pop shop.
James Galloway and his wife are the only people in Georgia who distribute specialty dog food Pet Chef Express. It's recognized by the white bag and sticker. Eight hundred bags of it were snatched from their warehouse.
The couple also sells the food out of their shop, Intown Healthy Hound, in Grant Park. The thieves made a 20,000 pound and $30,000 dent in their small business.
"We did this straight up from the ground up, so I know this has been sweat equity. And we really love it. Since the beginning of time, there have been people that prey on others' hard work," Galloway said.
Police think someone broke into their warehouse through a window, then used a forklift to load the food.
"I know how much labor it takes to move that, so they were there for several hours," Galloway said.
He's disheartened someone would steal from them. But even more so, he's worried about how they will get enough food for thousands of customers.
"It's not just about me. A lot of people count on us to provide a service or a product for them that they can only get from me, and that's a greater magnitude that I'm even able to comprehend at this point," Galloway said.
The current dog food supply will run out in a few weeks. Healthy Hound is trying to get an emergency shipment in, but they still haven't figured out how they'll pay for it.
Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. Copyright 2012 WGCL-TV (Meredith Corporation). All rights reserved.
