Saturday night at the Georgia Dome the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide will square off for the right to play in the National Championship game. To say it is a big game is an understatement.
"It's a hard ticket to get and this year especially with Georgia in the game and Alabama, whose fans travel very well, it's become one of the harder tickets to get," said Jason Kirksey, a spokesperson with the Georgia Dome.
Monday afternoon, tickets for the game were going for hundreds if not thousands of bucks online. Authorities say criminals are taking advantage of the intense demand to try and sell counterfeit tickets.
"If you buy anything on the secondary market, you are doing so at your own risk," said Kirksey.
But he says if you plan to take that risk, make sure the ticket has the tell-tale signs that it is real and not fake.
"There are three different holograms. There is one right here at the top of the ticket, one right under the seats sections and the SEC Championship is a hologram and inside that hologram, you should see the SEC logo," Kirksey said.
Kirksey says you should also trust your sense of touch.
"The ticket is a glossy coated ticket, it is not just paper. The legit, actual ticket has a gloss to it so you should be able to feel that in person and every ticket has a barcode, that is how you get in. It will be scanned by our computer system and verified it is a legit ticket," said Kirksey.
Officials say you should also look at the seating location on the front of the ticket and check on back to make sure it actually exists.
"If you are purchasing online and the deal looks too good to be true or something doesn't feel right, use a little bit of caution because if you show up at the gate with an invalid ticket, you will be denied entrance," Kirksey said.
Saturday morning, the Georgia Dome will open a validation window where people can get their tickets scanned to see if they are valid.
