ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The jobless rate in the Atlanta metro has sunk again this month, down one-tenth of a percentage point to 8.2 percent.
The Georgia Department of Labor said Thursday Atlanta's unemployment rate was 9.4 percent in October of last year.
Commissioner Mark Butler said the decline was the result of 19,500 new jobs added in the metro area this month. The growth was primarily in retail trade, professional, scientific and technical services, education and healthcare, accommodations and food services and local government. Over the last year, jobs in Atlanta increased 1.5 percent.
Across Georgia, the metro area with the lowest rate of unemployment has consistently been Athens, while the metro Dalton area had the highest this month at 11.3 percent.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate in Georgia was down to 8.7 percent in October, which is down from 9.0 percent in September. It was a full point higher in October 2011.
