ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Howell Mill at 14th Street is shut down indefinitely because of a crack and a sinkhole in the road.
The sinkhole was first thought to be caused by a water leak. However, CBS Atlanta News spoke with Atlanta Department of Watershed Management spokesperson Scheree Rawles Wednesday morning, and she said that was no longer thought to be the case.
So far, investigators have not been able to detect any broken pipes.
All lanes of Howell Mill Road are closed between 14th and 17th streets, which is also a bridge, until the section is deemed safe for travel.
Drivers said while the roadblock caused delays Wednesday morning, it could've have been much worse had traffic not already been light for the holidays.
"Thankfully, traffic's not too heavy, so it's only going to cause a 10-minute delay for me," said Terry Howard.
Businesses in the area are still open.
