Mark Melvin/CBS Atlanta- Homicide detectives are searching for the person who shot and killed three people early Wednesday.
DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
DeKalb County police have identified the suspect in the triple fatal shooting as Brian Levern Gupton, 32.
Investigators say he is driving a smoke gray BMW 745 manufactured between 2004 to 2006. The car is also described to have tinted windows.
When Frederick Battles heard gunshots and screams coming from somewhere inside his apartment complex, he had no clue someone had just murdered three people.
"I heard screaming behind the gunshot. That's what made me hurry up and get inside the house," Battle said.
Battle lives at the Crystal Point Apartments on Columbia Drive in DeKalb County. The shootings happened around 1:30 a.m.
Family members who arrived after the shootings had a hard time containing their emotions.
"I cannot calm down," one woman screamed.
Police say someone shot a woman and two men in the parking lot.
"At this point our detectives do not believe this was a random shooting. They do believe all the parties were familiar with each other," said Mekka Parish, DeKalb County police spokeswoman. "All three victims were there meeting with the suspect. They were discussing a dispute over some money that was stolen."
As to who stole the money, how much, when and where, Parish said is still a mystery.
People who live in the complex said they can't imagine why someone would get so angry over money and kill three people the day before Thanksgiving.
"It's sad. I know it's going to always be a memory every Thanksgiving. It's going to pop up in their mind. I know it's going to pop up in my mind and I'm not even related to them," Battle said.
The names of the victims have not been released.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call The DeKalb County Police Major Felony Unit at 770-724-7850.
