ATHENS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A 30-year-old was arrested in connection to an armed robbery at the Golden Pantry in Athens-Clarke County.
On Saturday, officers responded to the robbery at 1880 W. Broad St.
The clerk told officers when she got out of her car, William L. Murdock approached her at the door.
He covered her mouth and demanded that she open the door, according to the clerk.
While inside, she was forced to open the safe, according to reports. Murdock took money and packages of cigarettes before leaving the scene.
A responding officer saw a car leaving a nearby closed business and the driver was wearing a mask.
When the officer began to follow, the masked man opened the car door and jumped out.
Officers ordered him to the ground at gunpoint.
He was arrested and charged with armed robbery and fleeing and attempting to elude.
