As the holiday season approaches, a local shopping district announced it will beef-up security patrols.
The Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District (CID) will add to the evening patrols.
Josh Smith is used to patrolling the streets and shopping areas for the Gwinnett Place CID in Duluth.
Starting on Thanksgiving night, he'll have more help doing so.
"Basically I look down each aisle or row and see if anybody is walking around. If there's been any cars that look like a window has been broken into. And I look to see if anybody's got their hood up or like they need assistance," Smith said.
The plan is to add two and sometimes three extra uniformed professionals to be out and about monitoring the shopping district.
Joe Allen with Gwinnett Place CID said the portals will work closely with Gwinnett County police to notify law enforcement of any potential criminal activity.
"To make certain that the message gets out that we will not tolerate any type of crime in the area," Allen said.
The added patrols are not just meant to be an extra set of eyes and ears for police, but also an added bit of comfort for merchants and shoppers.
The extra patrol will run through the end of the year.
