CARTERSVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are looking into a shooting by two Bartow County deputies that left a 66-year-old woman dead Thursday night.
According to John Bankhead, a spokesman for the GBI, the shooting happened during the execution of a drug search warrant. A woman in the residence was shot by deputies when she produced a handgun, Bankhead said.
The GBI's involvement is standard in officer-involved shooting cases.
A family member told CBS Atlanta News that deputies entered the woman's home with what's known as a "no-knock" warrant. A no-knock warrant, if signed by a judge, allows law enforcement officers to enter a residence without knocking on the door.
Authorities were withholding the woman's name until all of her family members had been notified.
