4 dead after train hits parade float

MIDLAND, TX (CBS ATLANTA/AP) -

Four people were killed and 17 others were injured when a train slammed in to a parade float in Midland, TX. The float was headed to a west Texas event honoring wounded veterans.

Union Pacific spokesman Tom Lange says the eastbound train sounded its horn before it hit the float. He says the crossing gate and lights were working at the time.

City of Midland spokesman Ryan Stout says 10 of those injured are in critical condition at Midland Memorial Hospital, while the seven others are in stable condition.
