BALL GROUND, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A Ball Ground man who set out to collect items to send to his mother who lost just about everything when Hurricane Sandy hit has collected more than he could have wished for.
With the help of co-workers, Jason Payne has collect a truckload of donated items.
"I'm astonished by the kind-hearted people that I work with. They went through their closets and basically gave everything they could," Payne said.
Payne's mother and her husband live in Staten Island, NY. Their home was hit by a floating car during the storm, shifting it off its foundation. Many of their neighbors lost a lot as well.
The generous donations of clothing and household items are enough to help several families.
Now Payne is left with the daunting task of getting those items to the East Coast.
"There's no way, no way that me and my wife included can get this stuff up (to New York) without asking for help," Payne said.
Payne is hoping someone will come forward to help get those items to the people who need them.
