Visitation Thursday for Henry County officer killed in hit-and-run crash

HENRY COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Visitation for fallen Henry County Police Officer Elgin Daniel will be held on Thursday night.

Daniel was killed while helping put gasoline into a stranded vehicle just east of Commerce Drive at Highway 138 near Stockbridge on Monday.

Roadside assistance worker John Cook, 58, was also injured. He is recovering at Atlanta Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Visitation for Daniel will take place at Horace A. Ward Funeral Home in Stockbridge on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church along Flat Shoals Parkway.

DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis has directed staff to lower flags to half staff at all county government buildings. Daniel was employed by DeKalb County for 26 years prior to working for Henry County.

On Tuesday, Ruben Marin-Garibay, 43, of Stockbridge, was charged in the hit-and-run accident.
