Paul and Sheila Comer
PAULDING COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A Paulding County couple, charged in a case of child abuse that made national headlines, is in court Friday morning for a preliminary hearing.
A grand jury indicted Paul and Sheila Comer on charges of child cruelty, false imprisonment and kidnapping.
The case came to light when their 18-year-old son, Mitch Comer, got off a bus in Los Angeles, appearing malnourished.
He said the Comers beat, starved him, and kept him locked in a room for years.
The judge did not grant bond for the couple.
The defense wants Paul Comer transferred to Cobb County Jail. In Paulding County jail he is being kept in solitary confinement and the defense said he needs human contact.
Mitch has two sisters that were taken into DFACS custody.
The Paulding County district attorney said his sisters have post traumatic stress disorder because of the abuse by their parents.
CBSAtlanta.com will have more on this case throughout the day.
