ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Atlanta police are investigating after an officer shot a man who pulled a handgun on the officer.
It happened around 7:00 a.m. at Family Dollar in the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Drive.
Authorities say the officer fired back at the man early Thursday morning, behind a Family Dollar store on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Atlanta police Lt. Paul Guerrucci said that the officer was responding a call about a prowler around 7 a.m., and spotted the suspect behind the business.
Guerrucci said the suspect pulled a gun, and the officer responded by firing his weapon and striking the man at least twice.
Authorities said the suspect was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition.
Police say the officer was not injured.
