Two reports of suspicious men coming in contact with Virginia Highland residents this week have neighbors concerned.
Police released a sketch hoping it will help identify the suspect.
On Thursday morning, Atlanta police said a 12-year-old girl had ridden her bike from school back home because she had forgotten something.
Police said she went into her Virginia Highland home and left the door open because she planned on leaving quickly.
While she was inside, police said a man came into the home and told her to go upstairs, but she told him to leave. That's when police said the man began to move toward her, but the young girl screamed, pushed him out of the way and ran from the home.
Police believe the man was driving a gold, sedan-type vehicle. A car was captured on a surveillance camera in the area around the time. The vehicle is possibly the suspect's vehicle and is similar to the description given.
Virginia Highland neighbor Audrey Polk told CBS Atlanta News that she received an email from her neighborhood association describing another event that happened on Wednesday.
The email stated that around 4:30 p.m., a nanny took a toddler for a walk near Ponce de Leon Place and Drewry Street when she was approached by three men who pulled up next to her in a silver SUV. The email states the men told the nanny to give them the baby, but the nanny managed to get away with the young child. The email states a report was filed with APD, but police have not yet been able to confirm it.
Polk said that, even though her children are grown, these events concern her.
"In my neighborhood, where I live, there are lots of small children and children that are school-aged," Polk said. "I'm just watching a lot closer because of that, absolutely."
Police want any residents who see suspicious activity to call 911 immediately.
If you have any information about the suspicious man, please call Atlanta police investigators at 404-546-4260.
