Family puts up billboard focused on finding illegal immigrant
A family who lost a son in a car crash caused by an illegal immigrant has put up this billboard in Cherokee County.
WOODSTOCK, GA (CBS46) -
Billy Inman spends most of his time taking care of his wife, Kathy. Together they try to cope with the pain of losing their son, Dustin, and deal with the fact the driver who shattered their family is still free.
On Wednesday night, a billboard went up in Cherokee County that they hope will draw attention to another side of the illegal immigration debate and help find the driver who ran into them.
"It's Halloween - that's awful scary (pointing to picture on billboard). Illegal immigration is something that shouldn't be here," said Billy Inman.
Twelve years ago a car plowed into the Inmans' car. Dustin Inman, 16, was killed. Kathy Inman spent months in a coma. She is now in a wheelchair and still has several surgeries a year. Police said the driver of the other car was an illegal immigrant.
The Inmans' billboard is on Bells Ferry Road South in Woodstock. Over a map of the United States decorated with an American flag is the poison symbol. It reads "Illegal Immigration Kills Americans." Underneath is the Inman's website http://www.legalamericanfolks.com. It also has a photo of Gonzalo Gonzalez. He's the man police said hit the Inman family. Since he is in the country illegally, he was able to vanish with no way for law enforcement to track him.
"As far as I know, they're still trying to find him. They're doing their best. They just need a lead," said Billy Inman.
Billy Inman said when people see his billboard, "I want them to get involved."
The Inmans said they want justice and they want the immigration issue up in front of everyone.
"Anybody who thinks I'm a racist doesn't know me at all. I want something done where it won't happen to you someone else because it's not right," said Billy Inman.
