One day after CBS Atlanta News exposed a pile of nasty mattresses dumped in front of an abandoned home on Metropolitan Parkway in Atlanta, the mess was cleaned up.
"Well, I'm excited and the reason why I'm excited is because we got action, but the only reason we got action is because we got CBS involved," said Neighborhood Association President Tim Dobbins.
City workers removed the debris early Tuesday morning. It was great news, not only for people living in the area, but also for Sonya Jones, a local realtor who sells homes in southwest Atlanta.
"God bless you, thank you for cleaning it," Jones said.
Jones, a Remax realtor, said her business took a real hit because of the eyesores in the neighborhood.
"I find that it's difficult to sell property when all this debris is left on the sidewalks and left on the street and left in front of these houses because once they see this, they don't even want to purchase in the neighborhood," Jones said.
Even though the property was cleaned up, the house remained unsecured. CBS Atlanta News spotted a the same squatter who was seen on the property on Monday after he was told to relocate.
"We as a community have been frustrated in our voices not being heard and it's a shame that we have to go through you guys just to get recognized over here in southwest Atlanta," Dobbins said.
City officials said they have decided to demolish the home in the near future, as opposed to boarding it up.
