SANDY SPRINGS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
For two decades, residents in Sandy Springs could only dream of a less congested interchange on Roswell Road.
As of Tuesday, that dream came true: The Roswell Road bridge widening project is 99 percent complete. All lanes are open and it's making a huge difference already.
The $3.57 million project began this past spring with the goal of alleviating traffic congestion and improving safety by widening the existing bridge from five lanes to six lanes and providing dedicated turn lanes to the I-285 entrance ramps in both directions along Roswell Road.
Previously, insufficient capacity on the bridge resulted in heavy congestion at the interchange during morning and afternoon peak hours, contributing to a high incidence of traffic accidents in that area.
Check out Pothole Patrol on Tuesday for more on the story at 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. on CBS Atlanta News.
