DECATUR, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
An official with Georgia Power says high wind gusts are partly to blame for continued power outages across metro Atlanta.
On Vistavia Circle in Decatur, a large tree fell across the street around 2 a.m. Tuesday. One car was destroyed and another seriously damaged, while power lines were knocked down, sending the neighborhood completely into the dark.
"About every three hours, we'd get another big blow (of wind), as soon as we get stuff caught up, we'd be at it again," said Perry Craig of Georgia Power. "We had crews come in Sunday night, they worked Sunday night, all day yesterday."
As of 3 p.m., 2,450 customers were still without power in the state and about 1,700 customers were without power in Metro Atlanta.
