Keith Parker was introduced Friday morning as the new CEO of MARTA and vowed to begin turning around the massive financial shortfall facing the agency.
A recent audit found that MARTA will run out of cash reserves in six years if it does not trim $25 million a year, each year.
"There is no one thing that we will do to get out of the red," said the 46-year-old Parker, who has experience managing transit systems in Charlotte and San Antonio.
He said MARTA suffers from an image problem, and he plans to change that.
"I think changing the image of the transit system starts with me... that's going to be part of my daily plan, will be to use my Breeze card and jump on the train or the bus and take it to work every day.
"Many people in the transit industry view the MARTA job as the most complex in the industry," he said. "I don't disagree."
Parker said he would not talk about specific measures he plans to take as CEO until he takes office on Dec. 10.
