Spirit Day: Wear purple to stand up against bullying

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Friday is Spirit Day, a day where people add a splash of purple in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights.

The national awareness day was started by Brittany McMillan.

All Spirit Day participants are urged to upload photos of themselves wearing purple to Instagram and Twitter, using the hashtag #spiritday.

You can also take part in Spirit Day from your phone.

GLAAD and Toyota Financial Services have launched the "Go Purple for #SpiritDay powered by Toyota Financial Services" app for iPhone and Android.

The app provides users with anti-bullying resources, calls to action and a tool that can turn photos purple and share to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
