ALPHARETTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A teenager has died after the Ferrari he was driving left an Alpharetta road and burst into flames early Friday.

Akshay Panducherry,18, of Alpharetta, died Wednesday.

George Gordon, with the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, said the red sports car was traveling eastbound on Webb Bridge Road, just past North Point Highway just before 4 a.m. The vehicle went off the road into the woods and caught fire.

Panducherry's passenger was identified as Harshavardhan Patlolla, 21.

Panducherry and Patlolla were able to climb out of the vehicle but not before suffering second and third degree burns, Gordon said.

Both men were taken by helicopters to the Grady Memorial Hospital Burn Unit in very serious condition.

Investigators are looking into whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
