ATHENS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The University of Georgia had to contact thousands of current and former employees after a computer hacker stole personnel records.
The hacker now has the names and social security numbers of 8,500 people.
The school said the intruder then used the information to break into the university's record-keeping system.
The university said it will provide credit monitoring to those who ask for it.
