ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
History was made Saturday as the Rev. Christopher Wright was ordained as the 10th bishop of the Episcopalian Diocese of Atlanta.
The ordination and consecration service was held at the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College.
Wright spent more than a decade leading Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Atlanta, the oldest and largest African-American Episcopal congregation in the state.
He is credited with raising member attendance to some of the highest numbers among U.S. Episcopal churches.
On Sunday, Bishop Wright delivered his first sermon as head of the Diocese at Saint Philip's in Buckhead.
