LOS ANGELES (AP) -

Space shuttle Endeavour is on its way to a Los Angeles museum where it will spend its retirement.

The California Science Center says the shuttle began its move late Thursday from the Los Angeles International Airport on a two-day, 12-mile trip to the Science Center where it will go on display.

A security entourage was to follow Endeavour as it leaves airport property and onto city streets. It was expected travel through the airport and hit the streets by 2 a.m. PDT.

Once on the street, it will travel slowly to a private parking lot where it will have a nine-hour layover as crews deal with power lines father ahead on the route.

It was expected to move again in the afternoon and through the night. To make room, hundreds of trees were cleared and sidewalks were closed to pedestrians.

The youngest of the shuttle fleet, Endeavour has flown 25 times over two decades.
