A Cleveland RTA bus driver is no longer behind the wheel after getting in a physical altercation with a female passenger.
According to video posted on WorldstarHipHop.com, Artis Hughes, who has been with the RTA for 22-years, attacked 25-year-old Shidea N. Lane after she got into his face.
The video shows the passenger egging the driver on - calling him and his family names. The two begin trading insults and while out of the camera's view, the passenger does something that causes the driver to get out of his seat and hit her with an uppercut. At one point, the driver chokes her and even pulls her hair. During the ordeal, the passenger never once stops yelling expletives.
The fight was eventually broken up by other passengers. Hughes refused to press charges against Shidea Lane and Lane did not file a report or charges against Hughes.
The incident happened on September 18 on Route #5 in Beachwood.
An RTA Spokesperson released the following statement concerning the incident:
RTA saw the video posted on YouTube of the operator incident on October 11. Through the investigation, we believe the incident occurred on Sept. 18. Upon identifying the driver, he was immediately suspended and removed from duty. His behavior is absolutely unacceptable.
RTA apologizes to our customers for this incident. A full investigation continues.
We ask the public to call Transit Police during any incident on RTA vehicles or property at 216.566.5163 or to call 9-1-1 in life threatening emergencies.
