Shooters target home on Portland Ave. in SE Atlanta
Bullets pierced windows of home with seven people inside
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A man was wounded - his family members terrorized - as shooters targeted their southeast Atlanta home early Wednesday.
The home on Portland Avenue was riddled with bullets when police responded at 2 a.m. Officers found a 25-year-old man in the living room with bullet wounds to both of his legs. Paramedics rushed the man to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
According to Capt. Adam Lee III, six other people were inside the home at the time, including an elderly woman and two young children. They were not hurt.
"It's a very scary situation, especially with children in the home," said Lee. "It could have been a lot worse than it was."
Crime scene investigators found 37 bullet shell casings in the front yard, police said.
"They all came from rifles," Lee said.
Witnesses told police they saw three men fleeing the scene on foot. They were not able to give descriptions of the shooters.
Detectives were questioning the gunshot victim to try to figure out who might have targeted him.
"He is not offering any information at this point as to why this happened, but we do definitely believe it was a target situation," said Lee.
