ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Several days after a principal was suddenly removed from his job at North Atlanta High School, parents will meet with Atlanta Public School officials Tuesday night at 6 p.m. to get answers on why Mark Mygrant is no longer in charge of the school.
Including Mygrant, six school employees were removed from their positions late last week. Several were reassigned to other schools.
Even though parents knew Mygrant was on the way out soon, some were surprised it happened so quickly, in the middle of a semester.
"I mean if there's some smoking gun out there that no one knows about, then that should have been identified," said parent and teacher Kim Zemmali. "We're not reassigning people every time to cover something else up. Let's just get the truth out there. We all want a great community school.
"Every school has issues, but bringing those issues to the surface and deciding how we handle them is what we should do, not come in and have hostile takeover. That's not effective."
Superintendent Errol Davis issued a statement regarding the change of personnel, saying, "Keep in mind that among other changes, we will be moving into a new school next year; the move to a new campus coupled with having a new principal and installing a new leadership team is precisely why it is critical that we begin the transition process sooner, rather than later."
In addition to the removal of the principal, PTA access to update the school's website was revoked.
The PTA newsletter read:
"Since 2010 the North Atlanta PTSA has been authorized by APS to maintain and update our school web site. With the exception of one small section of the site, this access was revoked over the weekend. We regret that we will no longer be able to update the web site on behalf of teachers, athletic teams, arts organizations, student clubs, booster clubs and other school entities. If you need to disseminate information via the NAHS web site, we suggest you contact a member of the transition team."
CBS Atlanta's Craig Bell will have more on this story at 5 p.m.
