LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A 50-year-old Lawrenceville woman was killed in a traffic accident
Friday morning at the intersection of Buford Drive and Hurricane Shoal Road.
Lawrenceville police said Phuoc Thach, a 51-year-old man from Lawrenceville, was traveling south on Buford Drive and attempted to turn left onto Hurricane Shoal Road.
Thach's vehicle was struck by a northbound Freightliner truck driven by Lucio Lopez of Lawrenceville.
Killed in the collision was Thach's wife, Kim Nguyen.
After striking Thach's vehicle, the truck then struck another vehicle and damaged a traffic signal controller before coming to rest in a gas station parking lot.
Four people were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with minor injuries. Nguyen died on the scene.
The operating system for the traffic signal at the intersection was damaged in the crash.
The intersection was partially closed for several hours due to a crash investigation and signal damage.
