Authorities warning residents about Green Dot card scam

Posted: Updated:
DALTON, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Authorities are warning residents about a Green Dot card scam.

If you get a call from someone claiming to represent an area business who asks you to load money onto a Green Dot card to pay a bill, don't do it.

The Dalton Police Department has received reports from citizens complaining that they've received calls from a person claiming to represent Dalton Utilities.

The caller tells the victim that their account is overdue and instructs the victim to put money onto a Green Dot credit card to avoid the shutoff of their services.

A Green Dot card is a pre-paid credit card that works just like a regular credit card or debit card.

If you have any information to help the investigation, contact the Dalton Police Tip Line at 706-278-9085, Ext. 221.
