ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
There are new details about a giant tree that came crashing down onto Campbellton Road in Southwest Atlanta. But oncoming cars couldn't stop in time before crashing into the branches.
"All of the sudden we heard a big old 'pow,'" said witness Ephriam Jones. "The whole tree just had come on down."
Sharee Greene barely escaped serious injury when her car crashed into the limbs in the middle of the road.
"When the tree had fell I stopped and swerved my car and that's when the tree fell and my car had went over the tree," Greene said. "When the tree fell I stomped on my break and turned. If I wouldn't have turned, the whole tree would have fell on top of me."
That's when Norma Rollins and her friend Deborah Kemp said they risked their lives to help the people stuck in the cars.
"They hollered and said there was live wires," Kemp said. "Adrenaline takes over and you know your body and your mind what it says do."
Atlanta police said none of the passengers were transported to hospitals, and Rollins and Kemp insist, they are not heroes - just helpful neighbors.
"All's I know is, the good Lord put us in the right place at the right time," Rollins said.
