SUWANEE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
About four inches of rain fell in the city of Suwanee on Monday, but city officials estimate nearly four feet of flooding in some areas.
One of the hardest hit parts of the city was Martin Farm Park, which was completely underwater. City Public Works Supervisor Scott Moretz said the flood peaked around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
"For us here, six to seven hours after the peak of the rain, we start to see flooding," Moretz said.
Neighbors like Kathy Heidish said the area near Suwanee Creek Greenway does flood often, but she's never seen anything like this.
"It's pretty crazy because usually it's lush and green and there's no water that you can see here," Heidish said. "There's just a small creek."
The creek was certainly not small Tuesday afternoon, with its overflow spilling over Martin Farm Road.
The city of Suwanee finished work to the area two months ago that was meant to help flooding drain more quickly.
Moretz said this flooding was much more water than that project was meant to deal with.
