ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
It's not fair for tropical storms and hurricanes to get all the attention.
That's why The Weather Channel has decided to name noteworthy winter storms for the 2012-2013 seasons.
According to their website, naming a storm raises awareness and attaching a name makes it much easier to follow a weather system's progress.
The company also said in today's social media world, a name makes it much easier to reference in communication.
The process for naming a winter storm will reflect a more complete assessment of several variables that combine to produce disruptive impacts including snowfall, ice, wind and temperature.
