Tornado watch issued for Metro Atlanta

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A tornado watch has been issued for Metro Atlanta until 9 p.m.

Counties in the affected area include: Baldwin, Barrow, Bartow, Bibb, Bleckley, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattahoochee, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Crawford, Crisp, Dade, Dawson, DeKalb, Dodge, Dooly, Douglas, Fannin, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gilmer, Gordon, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Harris, Heard, Henry, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Lumpkin, Macon, Marion, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Murray, Muscogee, Newton, Oconee, Paulding, Peach, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Pulaski, Putnam, Rockdale, Schley, Spalding, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, Troup, Twiggs, Upson, Walker, Walton, Webster, Whitfield, Wilcox, and Wilkinson.

Mostly cloudy skies can be expected Monday night with isolated strong storms capable of producing tornadoes and strong winds through sunset.

A Georgia Power spokeswoman told CBS Atlanta News that as of 3:30 p.m., about 6,000 customers in Metro Atlanta were without power because of downed lines.

There was no word when the power would be turned back on for those customers.
