NORCROSS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Less than six months after a freak outdoor accident that ultimately claimed her hands, feet and left leg, 24-year-old Aimee Copeland is in the midst of a steady recovery.
Several fundraisers, including an art exhibit Saturday night at the Norcross Welcome Center, have helped her family pay for mounting medical expenses.
"There's not a whole lot that's wrong with my life," said Copeland with a smile on her face. "I have a great home, I have food to eat, I have great friends, I have love and support. What more do you need?"
Copeland has steadily regained some of her independence. She said she is now able to eat, put on makeup and drive on her own, despite not having any feet or hands.
The Saturday night art exhibit showcased the work of Vicki Johnson, who said she will give a portion of her sales to help Copeland's family pay for medical expenses.
Copeland fell from a zip line on May 1, crashing onto rocks in a stream. The gash on her left leg brought on the infection that ultimately forced doctors to amputate her hands and feet.
