DAWSON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A Department of Natural Resources rescue crew was able to safely rescue a hiker from Cochran Falls on Friday afternoon.

Cochran Falls is located in Dawson County in the North Georgia Mountains.

After reaching the hiker in distress, DNR officers strapped them into a hanging stretcher and airlifted them via helicopter to safety.

The helicopter than dropped off the hiker in a nearby field where medical personnel were waiting.

The hiker was then transferred to a medical helicopter, which took them to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment.

A spokesperson with the DNR did not say what caused the emergency rescue, or the condition of the hiker.
