POWDER SPRINGS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Cobb County fire investigators continue to investigate a Powder Springs house fire that left one man seriously injured.

"It just shocked me, but I knew what to do," witness Robert Odom said.

Odom called 911 from his car repair shop just before noon on Thursday when he spotted something unusual on Murray Avenue.

"I was in my chair when I saw smoke coming out of the house across the street, coming out of the vents so I called the fire department," Odom said.

A man in his 70s was inside the home at the time of the fire and received severe burns.

"They stated when they did find him he was lying on the floor and he did have burns pretty much all over his body," Cobb County Fire Department spokesperson Denell Boyd said.

Boyd said the fire started in the kitchen, but it is too early to tell what caused it.

"When they tried to pick him up and move him he was moaning and so forth, but at this point I don't know his condition," Boyd said.

It's also unclear why the homeowner was unable to get out of the house once the fire started, so CBS Atlanta News asked Odom.

"I have no idea, he's a little crippled and can't walk very well at all," Odom said.
