ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Residents of a Buckhead apartment complex woke up Thursday morning to find someone had broken into their cars, in what they assumed was a secure parking garage.
Atlanta Police Capt. Adam Lee III said the burglars targeted approximately 30 cars at Cambridge Apartments on Piedmont Road.
"They took my iPhone and some cash," said resident Dennis Miller, who regrets leaving valuables in the car.
"I just got back in town last night. It's not what I want to wake up to," said another, victim Brad Schmitt.
Investigators said the cost of replacing the items stolen from the cars, such as CDs and GPS units, pales in comparison to the cost of repairing the damage to the vehicles.
Lee said the garage is gated and requires a code for entry.
Police are working to gather surveillance video taken inside the apartment complex.
In the meantime, residents hope apartment complex managers will further enhance security on the premises.
"What I'm thinking is hopefully they can at least get a security guard to walk around at night so we don't have to go through this again," said Schmitt.
