DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The DeKalb County Police Department is testing new clip on cameras as another way to help officers fight crime.
The 2-inch digital camera can be worn on the officer's uniform to record video and audio when they go out on calls.
The cameras can record up to two hours at a time, with the option to pause or stop.
The information can then be downloaded onto a computer.
Captain Sonya Porter told CBS Atlanta News the information could potentially be used in court to protect officers and citizens, much like dashboard cameras currently do.
"It's just another set of eyes and ears for our officers," Porter said. "It gives us a chance to look at exactly what's going on at a traffic stop or a domestic call."
The videos haven't been used as evidence in court yet, but prosecutors have asked to review some of them.
The department has been using the cameras since May.
Officers are still being trained on how to use them. At this time, there is not a clear date for officially rolling out the program or how much the program will cost.
