ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A motorcyclist who struck a large rock and was critically injured when flipped his bike in Midtown will be charged with DUI, according to Atlanta police.

Captain Adam Lee III told CBS Atlanta the man was riding at a high rate of speed near the intersection of North Ave and Northside Drive, which is believed to have contributed to the crash.

The motorcyclist was taken to Grady Hospital in critical but stable condition, Lee said. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

The man, who has not been identified, will be charged as he recovers from his injuries.
