GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A 25-year-old woman was shot and killed while attending to a vehicle in the back of the Hertz Rent-A-Car on Satellite Boulevard in the Duluth area.
Gwinnett County police are actively looking for clues in the murder of Monique Marlowe. She was shot sometime around 4 p.m. on Friday.
Investigators said a man approached the young woman while she was working out back.
Police are looking for more clues but told CBS Atlanta News the victim was able to give a vague description of the shooter before she died. Monique was able to tell investigators the suspect was wearing a blue shirt.
Investigators along with the victim's mother and father believe witnesses are out there.
The area where the shooting happened is well traveled and right next the Gwinnett County Transit pick-up/drop-off hub.
The victim's mother, Maria Marlowe, is hopefully that witnesses will come forward.
"I can't believe that. I can't believe that could happen to her," Maria Marlowe said.
She told CBS Atlanta News the suspect tried to rob her daughter and demanded she give him money.
"Her purse was inside. She didn't even have any money or a bag, or jewelry that she could give him," said Monique Marlowe's mother.
Maria Marlowe said her daughter worked for Hertz for about two years, and never expressed any concerns about safety on the job.
She also told CBS Atlanta News her daughter graduated from UGA with a degree in international business.
"She was a good girl. She loved swimming and won many medals including a state championship. Growing up she never missed a day of school in 13 years. You hear this on the news but never think it's going to happen to you," Maria Marlowe said.
Gwinnett County police are still investigating this crime. If you have any information you're urged to give them a call.
