JACKSONVILLE, FL (AP) -

A Florida prosecutor says he's reached a tentative plea deal sparing a German grandmother from a potential death sentence for allegedly killing her 5-year-old grandson.

State Attorney Willie Meggs on Friday confirmed he has agreed to a 21.5 year prison term for Marianne Bordt.

A court hearing is set for Monday in Apalachicola where the 73-year old woman is expected to accept the offer.

She was charged with first-degree murder for allegedly drowning her grandson, Camden Hiers of suburban Atlanta, in the bathtub of a beach house in the Florida Panhandle.

Bordt and husband were vacationing with the boy on St. George Island southeast of Tallahassee.

Her trial had been set to begin on Oct. 24. Bordt's lawyers had been preparing an insanity defense.
